Executive Summary
For
my final project, I tackled a business problem that my current employer was
facing. I currently work for Rego Consulting, which provides software
consulting to over a hundred clients. At any given time, this company is
working on approximately 150 different projects for all of these clients. These
projects all have different scheduled finish dates, as well as differing
amounts of budgeted hours. Some projects may only be scheduled to take one
week, while others may take over a year.
The problem that needed to be solved
was to find a way to quickly analyze all of the active projects based on their
scheduled finish dates and hours. My boss asked me to build a project that
would do three things. First, the report should display projects that are at or
near their scheduled finish date. Second, the report should display projects
that whose actual hours consumed are over or close to the budgeted hours
allowed. Third, the report should calculate a burn rate to determine which
projects are consuming their consuming their hours to quickly based on how much
time is left until scheduled completion. Using this report, my boss (the CFO of
Rego Consulting) hoped to be able to discern which projects needed to be
restructured with the client to adjust the finish dates, as well as what
projects to warn the resources that they need conserve hours better.
Using VBA, I have built a report
that accomplishes these tasks and provides management with the needed information.http://files.gove.net/shares/files/13w/trevanjr/Final_Project_WriteUp.pdf
