Textbook Pricer

Executive Summary

The business problem that I solved is the ease in price comparison in shopping for, or selling textbooks. I wanted to give students other price options besides their university’s bookstore, where books often sell for retail price. Textbooks are discounted if bought on the internet and deeply discounted if a used textbook is purchased online.

I designed a program to give textbook price information to users that enter in the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) of the book. The program has the user enter in a 13-digit ISBN, and then uses web queries to check 4 different websites for price information on new and used books. These are the websites the program looks at: Amazon.Com,,, and Textbooks.Com. The price information is then returned to the spreadsheet, based on whatever price information the web queries found on each website. The user also sees the author and the title of the book.
